Katy Home and Garden Show returns with new larger venue, expanded attractions

The Katy Home and Garden Show, the largest show of its kind in the west Houston area, will be returning this year on March 26 and 27 at a new larger venue.

The 16th annual show will take place at the Katy ISD Agricultural Center, which will offer more space for vendors and a larger exhibit area for outdoor vendors, said event coordinator Robyn Cade. The new location will be nearly double the size of previous events, which were held at the Merrell Center.

The show runs Saturday, March 26 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 27, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

With more than 250 vendors on hand, Cade said, visitors can connect with local businesses for all their home and garden improvement needs. There are also dozens of food and shopping vendors as well.

The main focus of the show are the home and garden contractors who offer everything from patios to bathroom renovations.

“One thing I think that we learned from the pandemic is just how important it is to have a home space that’s really tailored to you,” Cade said. “We spent a lot of time in our homes, and people are making more home improvements than ever before.”

By meeting vendors in person, she noted, visitors looking for a new contractor can get a chance to meet the people face to face that will be doing the work. “This really gives you an opportunity to make sure you have a connection with these companies so you know you’ve got the right person for the job,” she said.

The event will feature several demonstrations, including headliners The Cheese Chica and The Barndominium Lady. The Cheese Chica is known for crafting artisanal charcuterie boards. She will be offering charcuterie making classes for $50, which includes everything needed to make a cheese board, including the board itself. Registration for the class is required.

“You’re going to leave the class with a professional cheeseboard that serves up to four people, and you’ll have the knowledge to make your own,” Cade said.

Stacee Lynn, the Barndominium Lady, has received national acclaim for her trend of creating stunning luxury homes out of humble barns. She’ll teach visitors how to transform a raw barn into a show-stopping home.

Other presentations include water conservation in gardening and best horticulture practices for yards. “We’re finding more and more that people want to have gardens that don’t require a lot of water, both for cost reasons and environmental reasons,” Cade explained.

While the main focus of the show is home and outdoor improvement, Cade said, this year will bring more shopping and food vendors than previous years. “People love to shop, and this is a great opportunity for that,” she said. “You can find on-trend decor items, gifts and really unique pieces that you won’t find in a store.”

The Katy ISD Agricultural Center is located at 5801 Katy Hockley Cut Off Road. Show tickets are $7, and children 12 and younger are free. Parking is free. For more information on the show or to register for the charcuterie class, visit www.katyhomeandgardenshow.com.
