10 Simple Spring Decor Ideas to Refresh Your Home

[ad_1]

AT THE CUSP of what feels like the first genuine spring in three years, who can wait for the trees to leaf out before seizing on the change of season? “The last few years have been incredibly tough on all of us,” said Los Angeles interior designer Breegan Jane. “We’re all ready to begin anew.”

Byron Risdon, a Washington, D.C., interior designer, remakes his bed come spring by swapping his heavy duvet for a lighter blanket and cotton sheets for linen. “Small changes like these update your home for spring without making major changes.”

Here are a few switches that not only “springify” your space but are easily reversed once the weather cools again.

1. Cheers for Sheers

Swap out heavy, spiritually weighty drapes. “Adding curtains with less opacity can be a mood-lifter,” said Ms. Jane. The cheery violet flowers of these featherweight organic cotton curtains look as if they’re dancing over the equinox. Chai Curtain, $69, GudrunSjoden.com

2. Dainty Topper

A golf-course-green, woven lamp shade evokes open-air lunches as surely as a gin and tonic does. “The color and scallop detail add whimsy to a space,” said Gretchen Black, an interior designer in Louisville, Ky. Scalloped Twist Rope Lamp Shade in Kiwi, from $72, MaisonMaisonDesign.com

3. Trim Dandy

The vibrant edges of these bathroom towels from Matouk put one in mind of beach umbrellas and fluttering awnings. Made of long-staple cotton, whose lengthy fibers yield a softer fabric, they’re available trimmed in nine beach-ball colors from Lemon to Kelly Green. Buying a range of hues, Ms. Jane points out, “is a great way to identify which towel belongs to whom in the same household.” Cairo Scallop Bath Towel, $99, Matouk.com

4. Wee Trees

Logs by a fireplace that won’t be used for months look sad and dusty. Stand a couple of these manicured coleus from NY Topiary in their place, a surprising tri-color departure from standard boxwood and ivy varieties. To Mr. Risdon’s mind, the trained greenery makes the fireplace feel alive with the season, as a roaring fire did in winter. From $25, @nytopiary on Instagram

5. Solar Flair

Repurpose threadbare tea towels as wash rags and bring in these cheery gems whose print appears inspired by midcentury designer Alexander Girard. The vivid, retro suns fit into a multitude of kitchen color schemes and presage warmer days to come. Suns Dish Towel, $24, Anthropologie.com

6. Mat Matters

Replace your well-trod welcome mat with this customizable version. Hexagonal silicone tiles lock and unlock without adhesive, allowing you to greet your guests (or your toes post-shower) with motifs like flowers, ladybugs or bon mots. Tile Mat, from $75, Letterfolk.com

7. Napkins? Check.

A bolder, more graphic take on classic gingham, these peony-pink, hand-printed table linens look plucked from a luncheon in a Slim Aarons photo. Ms. Black sees them as almost inevitable companions to “crisp white dishes,” a staple many people have. Pink Painted Linen Check Napkin, $28 each, HudsonGraceSF.com

8. Scentsitivity

Soon lilacs and viburnums will perfume outdoor air. Beat out nature’s bouquet by swapping musky-scented candles for something less smothering. “A fresher scent like lavender or citrus will get you in the mood for warm weather,” said Mr. Risdon. Lavender Starter Kit, $54, PFCandleCo.com

9. Indoor Playground

Kids like to welcome spring, too. This ebullient removable wallpaper from Wallshøppe’s new collaboration with Fisher-Price can cover walls “accidentally” drawn on during those months of remote learning. Its happy botanical pattern will make children feel like they’re playing outside already. ‘Sunflower Garden’ Wallpaper by Fisher-Price, $68 a removable panel, Wallshoppe.com

10. Sunny Shower

Bringing in spring doesn’t have to make your house look like Peter Rabbit’s. Take, for example, this graphic shower curtain. Made of airy cotton, its sober gold and black celebrate the sun in an elegant geometric print. “Geo Sun” Shower Curtain, $39, UrbanOutfitters.com
