Looking for some fun this week in the Augusta-area? The Augusta GreenJackets are playing their first homestead of this season, and guests will get to check out the Atlanta Braves’ World Champions trophy during one of the games. The springtime tradition of the Garden City Festival is back at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. Downtown Augusta will be seeing a music festival this weekend featuring several artists. There are also some high-energy musical theater-themed events happening. Here are more details on these and other happenings:

The GreenJackets are back at home at SRP Park in North Augusta’s Riverside Village. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. They’ll face off against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers with games starting at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 6:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:35 p.m. Sunday. The Atlanta Braves’ world championship trophy will be visiting the stadium during Friday’s game (a ticket is required). Tickets can be bought at the box office or online at milb.com/augusta.

There’s an earlier opportunity to see the Braves’ trophy if you can’t make it to Friday’s GreenJackets game. Fans can see it from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Academy Sports + Outdoors on Fabian Drive in Aiken.

Garden City Festival

After a two-year hiatus because of COVID-19 precautions, the Garden City Festival is back at Sacred Heart Cultural Center on Greene Street in Augusta. The main festival will feature floral and landscape exhibits along with mini-information sessions and runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 22-23. There are also several other events running congruently, like “Seedling Saturday” and the butterfly house. Tickets are available online at sacredheartgardencityfestival.com.

Downtown Music Fest canceled

The Downtown Music Fest that was scheduled for Thursday-Sunday at the Augusta Common with “American Idol” champion Laine Hardy and “America’s Got Talent” quarter-finalist Charlotte Summers, among others, has been canceled. Earth Day celebration

Phinizy Swamp Nature Park invites the community to its Earth Day 2022 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, for activities, entertainment, arts and crafts, food, sustainable living information and tours. Admission is free. Learn more at www.earthdayaugusta.org. A community clean-up service day is also planned with volunteers needed and welcome to pick up litter from 9 a.m. to noon. Onstage

Here’s a fun show for the younger set: Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live! will be onstage at the Miller Theater this Wednesday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. This touring show brings the Emmy Award-winning PBS Kids series to life with a musical adventure of friendship, helping others and many surprises in store. The national Broadway tour of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Bell Auditorium. Get tickets at the James Brown Arena box office or online at aectix.com.

Augusta’s Musical Theatre Workshops is creating a child-starred show of Disney’s “The Jungle Book” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday at Augusta Preparatory Day School’s Hull Fine Arts Center on Flowing Wells Road. Purchase tickets at onwiththeshow.biz.

Colton Ballet Company will present “You’re Always on My Mind” at the Imperial Theatre. The show starts at 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, and features musical selections from Rachmaninoff and The Beatles to Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday. See www.imperialtheatre.com or call (706) 722-8341 for seats.

The Augusta Broadway Singers are hosting a “Grand Night with Rodgers and Hammerstein” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at First Baptist Church of Augusta on Walton Way Extension. The singers will pay tribute to the legendary musical team with songs from “The Sound of Music,” “Cinderella” and similar hits.

Also Saturday, the Augusta Symphony presents “Embrace the World” at 7:30 p.m. at the Miller Theater. The performance of Mahler’s Symphony No.3 will feature mezzo-soprano Abigail Nims. Seats are available at millertheater.com.

Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School students are putting on a show of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” April 21-24, with shows at 7 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The school is located on 12th Street in Augusta.

Food Truck Fridays

Columbia County Parks, Recreation and Events is bringing back its Food Truck Friday this week from 5-9 p.m. April 22 at the Columbia County Amphitheater on Evans Towne Center Boulevard. Vendors arrive at 6 p.m. and live music with The Unmentionables starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The next Food Truck Friday will be April 29 at Gateway Park, 215 Partnership Drive in Grovetown, with live music by The Harlem Sons.

A musical and artsy Sunday

Hear instrumental guitarist Tanner Duckworth perform in the Music at the Morris series at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Morris Museum of Art. Admission is free on Sundays to see the exhibits. Visit themorris.org for details.
