The orange and green colour combo is exciting and bold, but a strong decor palette is not to everyone’s taste. This collection of five modern home interiors show how to incorporate the contrasting colour combination without it becoming distractingly loud or overwhelming. In these inspirational home designs, muted tones rule. Orange hues lean into soft apricot and brown tinted tones, whilst shades of green are fresh and minty, warmly olive, or brought in naturally by house plants. We’ll look at ideas for orange and green living rooms that utilise colour as a zoning technique, modern bathroom designs, colourful master bedrooms, fun green kids rooms, plus moodboards and floor plans along the way.
Muted orange accent cushions add a dash of warmth to a small sectional sofa and a white lounge decor scheme in our first design. The same accent colour provides clear zoning for the dining area in the open plan living space, this time in the shape of modern upholstered chairs.
Fresh minty green wall cupboards separate the kitchen area from the dining spot in the compact floor plan. The ends of the tall kitchen cupboards are transformed into bookcases to form an attractive and useful feature.
A birdcage-style pendant light fixture makes a playful addition above the small dining table, and echoes its round shape.
The black light fixture is complemented by the black framework of the contemporary dining chairs, and the stark black window frames.
The bird-themed dining room pendant light, botanical artwork and an array of indoor plants fashion a peaceful connection with nature.
As we enter the master bedroom, we pass a walk-in closet design that gently glows through slatted glass doors. The upholstered bed is placed centrally in the remainder of the space, flanked by round bedside tables and directional wall lights.
The modern kid’s room takes on a solid saturation of colour. Green wall paint crashes up against a black wraparound headboard to create a bold combination.
The black and green colour connection continues inside the bathroom with mint green wall tiles that reach up to a black ceiling.
The interior design moodboard shows how the wood tone for the home was chosen to meld gently with the orange elements.

The colour zoning technique has been employed again inside our second living room design. An olive green sofa defines the lounge, whilst dark muted orange dining chairs zone the eating area.
All areas of the open plan living room are cohesively united by a border of visually warming wooden wall panels.
The woven sofa and lounge chair carry a relaxed look that is suggestive of a relaxed outdoor aesthetic. Indoor plants add to the tranquil garden feel.
Round wall sconces complement the curves of the oval dining table and the architectural arches that connect the dining space to the neighbouring kitchen.
The curved kitchen peninsula draws
smoothly around into a narrow galley kitchen layout.
A mirrored fridge-freezer increases the sense of space and light in the narrow kitchen design.
The archways that lead into the kitchen have been lined with wood effect panels that match the kitchen units.
The master bedroom design has a delicate botanical theme.
Watercolour leaves paint an illuminated headboard feature wall.
Moss green accent pillows and a matching green throw add colour onto a crisp white bed set.
In the kid’s bedroom, the bed is set into a cosy archway that is painted solid green inside and out. The green colourway also connects with a kid’s study area at the window, where coordinating window blinds extend the palette.
Olive green wall tiles clad the wet wall in the shower room. Recessed LEDs illuminate their hue.
This modern orange and green home interior has colour concentrated at its centre, where a muted green living room rug is interrupted by a bright orange coffee table.
A grey sofa falls into the background of the more colourful lounge decor pieces.
Behind the sofa, the dining area is defined with a green accented dining table design.
Another cone-shaped pendant shade is situated inside the master bedroom. Although the bedroom pendant light is smaller than its dining room counterpart, it dwarfs an orange bedside table.

Its bold orange colourway. A simple glass vase holds a small dash of greenery.
The grey upholstered bed is placed up against a bespoke curved headboard design that adds a flash of green to a basic white wall.
A green bedroom chair complements the curvaceous green headboard. Artwork brings in contrasting orange tones.
Orange paintwork uplifts the modern bathroom design, whilst a racetrack-shaped wall mirror, bathroom vanity light, and bathroom fixtures add edgy black elements.
Grey concrete tiles effectively subdue the orange decor scheme.

The grey concrete tiles continue inside of the shower wet zone to secure a seamless flow.
This 65 square metre home is located in the Arganzuela district of Madrid, Spain. The project involved the transformation of industrial premises into residential housing.
Indoor plants grow revitalising green accents into this relaxed home interior, whilst their terracotta pots add to the warm orange accents that are situated around the room.
Modern art brings in bright orange hues on a small scale that does not overwhelm the light living space.
Orange accent cushions colour the sofa. Books and CDs compile their own stack of colour.
Rattan stools, jute rugs, and natural wood elements warmly complement the orange infusions.
A small wood dining table seats four in the kitchen.
A mezzanine bedroom is built into the old industrial space to utilise its tall ceiling height. The bathroom is tucked underneath.
Exposed ductwork and a brickwork wall add to the industrial vibes of the modern home interior.
The whitewashed brick wall forms a textured backdrop for the kitchen. White backsplash tiles are set in vertical orientation to contradict the horizontal brickwork.
Tall kitchen units are picked out in a natural wood finish too. Handcrafted flat
ware and storage vessels communicate a creative, boho aesthetic.
Floating shelves are mounted on either side of the bed to keep the bedroom floor space clear and open.
Built-in wardrobes provide ample storage.
The mezzanine bedroom is atmospherically lit by an Akari 1A floor lamp by Isamu Noguchi. The floor lamp dreamily illuminates framed artwork that serves as a picturesque landscape view.
Storage cubes house a colourful library of books.
Black framework crisply edges the mezzanine in the predominantly white decor scheme.
The windowless bathroom is clad in black tiles across its walls and floor to accentuate its dark character, rather than fight against it.
Recessed LEDs wash cool white light down the shower wet wall and its built-in bench.

Finally, our last home design is a large, light and airy abode that’s filled with living greenery and earthy orange accents.
Beige living room chairs face toward a coordinating beige sofa in the lounge. An area rug adds a subtle pattern underneath. A simple white fireplace melts peacefully into the matching white wall paint.
Black metal elements ground the airy living room decor scheme. Wooden arches define each zone of the living space, from lounge, to dining room, to kitchen.
The entryway is situated through an archway off the side of the lounge. A traditionally turned wood console table makes a shapely addition below a piece of monochrome modern art.
Made-to-measure storage units fashion a mudroom area next to the front door, with plentiful storage space for coats and shoes. A small pouf, a standing mirror, and a wall sconce fashion a convenient dressing spot in the corner of the lobby.
A large window allows natural light to spill onto a long farmhouse dining table that seats up to eight people. A black wireframe chandelier thinly silhouettes in the sunlight.
Just beyond the dining space, a modern farmhouse kitchen design features navy blue base units and a contrasting wood kitchen island. Elegant kitchen pendant lights descend upon a convenient breakfast bar that seats three.
